I know that your minds are constantly thinking about conditional statements. I bet that when you had lunch with your friends, you had a lively conversation about the differences between the 2nd and 3rd conditionals. Don’t lie- I know it’s true! There was some confusion about the order of direct and indirect objects, particularly with this sentence:
1. The woman feeding the koala (indirect object) milk (direct object) is the mother. OR
2. The woman feeding milk (d.o.) to the koala (ind. o.) is the mother.
Both sentences are acceptable, but it does seem strange that the word order is flexible. For your reference, check out this website for the rules. There are even a couple exercises to help you practice:
If I had been in my neighborhood in Brazil, I would go to this beach.
If I had been on this beach, I would go to swim.
If I had swum on the sea, I would like to stay with my nephew and my nieces.
If I had run on the beach, I would drink a coconut water.
If I had taken sun there, I would use a lot of sunblock.
1) If i had had my own yatch, I would have sailed it around the world.
2) If i had traveled to Phuket, i would have taken a scuba diving course.
3) If i had been surrounded by the big sharks, i would have stoped breathing.
4) If the divers had not passed the advance level of scuba diving, they would not have been able to dive that deep.
5) If the sharks had not finished their meal, they would have killed somebody.
