Making Conditionals

Hey all,

I know that your minds are constantly thinking about conditional statements. I bet that when you had lunch with your friends, you had a lively conversation about the differences between the 2nd and 3rd conditionals. Don’t lie- I know it’s true! Anyway, if you’re still having some confusion, check out the following website:

Conditionals

It’s got some really concise explanations and exercises for you to practice. Enjoy!

Order of direct and indirect objects in English

Hey all,

There was some confusion about the order of direct and indirect objects, particularly with this sentence:

1. The woman feeding the koala (indirect object) milk (direct object) is the mother. OR

2. The woman feeding milk (d.o.) to the koala (ind. o.) is the mother.

Both sentences are acceptable, but it does seem strange that the word order is flexible. For your reference, check out this website for the rules. There are even a couple exercises to help you practice:

Our Secret Places

Hey all,

Check out the following website:

From here, I want you to look at the pictures posted by your classmates, and make comments about where you think they were taken, or what they’re capturing. Make at least one comment per picture. It’s very easy to do: just double-click next to any picture and make your comment! You can move your comments around, move the pictures, add new pictures, etc. Have fun! You can also do it on your phone, but it’s not as user-friendly:

What Gives You Peace in NYC?

New York City is a place overbrimming with frenetic energy. Sometimes it’s tough to find an activity that you can do to reconnect with yourself. I have found the most peace in taking bike rides. When I lived in West Harlem, I would take the bike path along the Hudson River, all the way down until I hit One World Trade Center. The morning rides were the best, because at 6 am, hardly anybody was on the path, and I could ride as fast as I wanted. Anyway, in my exhaustion, I was able to feel an inner calmness difficult to find in the day-to-day city living.

What about you? What do you do to find your peace in the city that never sleeps?
